S1000031On Tuesday evening, October 21, Michael Johnson of The Prodigy Project made a community-focused presentation at The West End School, 3628 Virginia Avenue.

The Prodigy Project is a grassroots community-based program working to secure successful futures for young Black boys. Through the efforts of committed African-American male volunteers and others, the program strives to counter negative stereotypes, improve literacy, enhance achievement and employment, and reduce the Black male presence in the penal system.

Starting in 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia, Johnson and Steven Ridges started a volunteer program that grew into a full nonprofit organization. Having been born in Louisville, Johnson had an interest to share the successes of Atlanta locally. The Prodigy Project is seeking partnerships and developing support to establish Prodigy in Louisville.
