Sons of Issachar Academy

The Sons of Issachar Afterschool Academy serves male students 2nd - 8th grade, Monday through Thursday, from 3pm - 6pm. CCDC believes it is our students' right to be encouraged to learn in an environment devoted to meeting their academic, emotional, social and physical needs.

As an extension of the normal school day Canaan Community Development Corporation is pleased to offer after school programming. We understand that for many busy and working parents, it's challenging to find an enriching atmosphere for after school care, particularly males who perhaps have additional needs in learning and scholastic development.

The Sons of Issachar Afterschool Academy has developed a truly innovative program for After-School Care. We instill a continued love of learning. We're offer homework assistance, technology time, supervised activities, and youth-directed career interests in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our After-School Program focuses on making learning fun. We welcome the After-School Kids to an environment with plenty of opportunities to unwind and just enjoy being a kid! From our activity rooms to the spacious state-of-the-art technology center, Sons of Issachar meets all the requirements to captivate and satisfy the needs of the school-aged child.

At our academy, your child can relax, knowing that they belong to a loving, supportive environment, and are encouraged to create lasting friendships and connections with their teachers and classmates.

Our "social-empowerment" philosophy holds true in the After-School Program. We foster loving kindness, respect, and understanding in every facet of our approach.

Our After-School Program has many incredible features:
We start at 3pm and close at 6:00 p.m. giving parents ample time to drop off and pick up their kids.

The Homework lab is designed to relieve some of the stress homework may bring to your child, and fosters a sense of support and encouragement. Our teachers are available for necessary homework help. This promotes a healthy beginning, middle and end to another successful school year, plus adds more quality time for your family.

The Technology Center brings change to our normal way of learning! So, to keep your child on the leading-edge, we offer the newest and most advanced educational techniques using computers and other technical devices. We also use the instructional software "Study Islands and Success Makers" provided by JCPS.

Every Thursday we will introduce the students to other creative aspects of learning through special presentations, workshops and motivational speakers.

Parents interested in registering their son for the academy should complete the above application and return it to CCDC. The Afterschool Academy begins the second week of each new school year.
