Ribbon Cutting of the Darrell Griffith Athletic Center at The West End School

A grand opening is planned for October 29 for the Darrell Griffith Athletic Center at West End School. The center, supported by more than $2 million in donations, bears the name of the man who led the University of Louisville to its first-ever NCAA Tournament championship in 1980.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, Mayor Greg Fischer and other local dignitaries are expected to attend the grand opening. The public is invited to attend the celebration at West End School, 3628 Virginia Ave., Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. Darrell Griffith will present students with a key to the new facility.

The Darrell Griffith Athletic Center will allow students at West End School to host their first ever home basketball games. The nearly 90 students at West End School will be using the facility on a daily basis, as a practice court and recreation facility. It will also host programs, games and tournaments for neighboring schools and organizations.
