This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression in 1974. The Alliance will celebrate their 17th Annual Unity Dinner welcomes Angela Davis as our keynote speaker.

It was the international movement to free Angela Davis as a political prisoner that lead to the formation of the National Alliance and local groups across the country.

The Alliance will be presenting posthumously the Carl And Anne Braden Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Dr. J. Blaine Hudson. Other honorees will be long-time racial justice activist Nancy DeMartra; U of L professor and community leader, Dr. Kaila Story; and an elder amongst civil rights attorneys Daniel T Taylor, III.

Doors will open at 5:45 pm. There will be a "Social Justice Hour," featuring an exhibit on Ky Alliance history and tabling by social justice groups. The buffet dinner will start at 6:45, and the program will begin at 7:30 pm.

Angela Yvonne Davis is an American political activist, scholar, and author. She emerged as a prominent radical activist in the 1960s and has remained active in the mass movement for justice since then. Prisoner rights have been among her interests and she is the founder of Critical Resistance, an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex. She is a retired professor with the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a former director of the university's Feminist Studies department.
